  • Can I host my event outside?
You may book a performer for your outdoor event, except when the temperature exceeds 90 degrees Fahrenheit or the event space is wet from a recent rainfall. Our performers reserve the right to move locations if the weather is too extreme. Have a backup location inside, just in case the weather does not cooperate. Please provide the performer with a shaded and cool location (they are in heavy costumes and wigs) and a clean chair to sit in. Avoid all standing water and mud. Performers in heels cannot perform safely on grass, dirty, or mulch.
  • Should I tip my performer?
Our entertainers are highly skilled and trained in their art, and their job begins far before they arrive at your event. They research and study the characters, rehearse the songs, recreate character-specific makeup, and more. To show your appreciation, you are welcome to tip them appropriately. Although it is appreciated, it is never expected! Typically, gratuity ranges from $20 and up per performer, per event.
  • Where can I host a character?
Our characters can visit nearly any location! In the past we have visited private homes, rec center party rooms, neighborhood clubhouses, library event rooms, parks, etc. As long as there is a quiet area with enough room for the children to spread out, our characters can make their magic!
  • What do I need to supply for my performer?
Our performers will arrive with everything they need for a magical party. The only exception is a cup of water and some paper towels for hand painting, if it is included in your party package. Usually they only need enough space for the children to spread out comfortably!
  • What prizes do the performers bring?
For parties 60 minutes and longer, our performer will bring candy prizes to give out to the children (typically Smarties candies). They will also bring a special gift for the birthday child that they will “win” at the end of the game. This is a small, non-edible gift such as a magic mirror, a headband, a crown, a jump rope, bubbles, etc. The gift will be themed to your character and may change based on availability.
  • Are your activities gender-neutral?
Yes! In our 10 years of experience, we have found that children of all genders can enjoy any character if they are given the opportunity! While our activities may be themed to that character, they are gender-neutral in practice and can accommodate all children at the party. Our performers are experienced and talented and can help include everyone during their visit.
  • Do you have any tips or tricks for the event?
Address the performer by their character name at all times. If you want to surprise the birthday child, be sure they are expecting a special guest. This way, you can avoid tears if they are overwhelmed when the character arrives. Be sure to ask adult guests to keep their voices low. We have perfected our magical activities over 10 years, and you don’t want to miss any special moments! Be sure there is a parent supervising in the same room as the performer. If children misbehave, please intervene before the character needs to stop the performance. Be sure to let your performer know about what you have planned, special details about the birthday child, etc… This will help the performer prepare and make the party even more memorable.
  • How should I handle snowy weather?
If the weather becomes dangerous with heavy snow, our manager will contact you before your event to discuss options. We do everything possible to make sure you have a performer for your event, but the safety of our performers and your guests is our priority! Inform guests as soon as possible before your event if you are still planning on holding the party so that they can prepare.
  • What are your general terms and conditions?
We will make every effort to ensure your child and guests are treated with the utmost care. Wands and Wishes Occasions is not responsible or liable for any accidents or damages, staining of skin, clothing, hair, or allergic reaction due to face paint. Our face paint is non-toxic, professional paint. It is the responsibility of the parents/guest to inform us of any dietary restrictions, or food allergies in advance of the event.
  • How do I reserve a Wands & Wishes mermaid?
Please fill out the reservation form on our website to reserve a date and time. Our Fairy Godmother will then send you a confirmation email with the details of your reservation. If you are interested in hiring a mermaid for a special event please email info@wandsandwishesoccasions.com.
  • What sets Wands and Wishes Mermaids apart?
The Wands and Wishes Mermaids are Colorado’s only swimming, real life mermaids available for private parties and events. They are available for hire world-wide and are fully insured independent contractors. All mermaids are Free-Dive certified and some are also Scuba Certified. They are the world’s top aquatic performers and have extensive experience performing in different environments. Like all of our costuming, we only use the highest quality materials and are known around the country for producing the most authentic characters. Our mermaid tails are made with professional aquatic, skin-safe silicone, custom created exclusively for the WW Mermaids.
  • How many guests can attend a mermaid swimming party?
A maximum of 10 children may be in the water with the mermaid. If you have more than 10 children in the water we require the booking of a second mermaid. This is for the safety of the mermaid and the children.
  • Do I tip the mermaid?
Our Mermaids and their assistants are professional actresses and aquatic performers. Gratuity is customary, and greatly appreciated. Please hand this to the assistant before they leave.
  • Where can a mermaid perform?
Our mermaids can perform at: local pools, rec centers, private homes, hotel pools, neighborhood pools, special events, renaissance fairs, open ocean shoots, movies, TV and film, pool parties, promotional events & premiers, corporate & VIP events, trade shows, yacht and sailboat events, beach parties, kid’s camp events, aquarium swims, resorts, on-land performances, photo booth at parties, free-diving work,
school educational talks, weddings/receptions, fundraisers & charities, and more! It is the client’s responsibility to reserve the facility or pool. Please inform the facility in advance of the mermaid’s attendance. We can provide a Certificate of Insurance if needed. Our Mermaid’s tails are large and heavy. Please allow for enough room for her to fit in the pool with party guests and swim safely.
  • How does the mermaid arrive?
Our Mermaids all have special assistants, and always have a safety diver with them for deeper water events. Your mermaid can start her visit in the pool before the guests begin swimming, or she can arrive after the guests are in the water. If your event is in your home, please be sure children are in another area until the mermaids are ready. Your mermaid will need a private area to change, with enough room to lie down fully. For her privacy and safety, it must be clear of all other guests. Your mermaid will be transported in a wheelchair, so please ensure that your pool or venue is wheelchair accessible.
  • What if older children don't believe the mermaid is real?
Some children may insist on proving our mermaids are not real. We ask for your help by informing parents ahead of time to talk to older children about using their imagination. We strive to keep the magic alive for younger guests and the birthday child. It can be a major disappointment if adult guests ask about our tail, experience, real names, etc in the presence of believing children. Our actresses are ready for tough questions, but in order to keep the experience fun and playful for everyone, parents must be informed ahead of time. If a child becomes fixated on heckling, and is distracting our staff from entertaining, we will ask that you intervene. If intentional harm is brought upon a mermaid or staff, after requests for assistance have been made, or damages occur you may be liable for compensation. Our Mermaids and staff will not tolerate any sexual harassment by any guest young or old, and reserve the right to stop all entertainment and leave the facility should this occur.
  • What behavior is expected of the children?
Our mermaids are accustomed to handling many behaviors. However, should a guest harm or be destructive in any way (pulling tail, spitting, hitting, splashing, jumping on, etc..) we ask for your assistance to help redirect or discipline the child. If the behavior continues, our staff has the right to remove the child from the situation for the safety of the mermaid and the other children. Our staff may enlist the help of lifeguards or other parents. We ask that you encourage all guests to show respect to our mermaids and staff. Like all our professional entertainers, we require that they are treated with respect at all times. We find the best way to enforce this is to be present and observant at all times. Failure to follow our guidelines may result in our staff prematurely departing the event before their scheduled time and clients being charged the full amount, plus damages.
